Russo & Steele – August 15th, 16th & 17th, 2019

290 Figueroa Street, Monterey, California 93940
5pm, August 15th, 16th & 17th.

Russo & Steele are offering their usual eclectic American slanted selection of classics and moderns in 2019 and headline the sale with a fine Shelby Cobra and a brace of Mercedes-Benz 300SLs. The Cobra is #CSX2328, a 1965 late production example of a 289cui Cobra which has been restored and an award winner at Hilton Head Concours. It is stated to have rare and extensive factory documentation and according to Russo & Steele it is a perfect example although it will need to be because the estimate is a top of the market $1.1 – 1.2 million and it has already failed to sell at Bonhams Amelia Island where it was estimated at $900k – 1.1 million earlier this year. I would say $900k should be all the money. The first of the 300SLs is the 1958 Roadster that was owned by one owner for 32 years and has been well conserved over that time. R&S is asking $925k – 1.1 mil. and the low estimate is all the money unless its condition 2 or better which I doubt, anything else is expensive. The second 300SL is a 1955 Gullwing that has been owned for 40 years by a single family and contains extensive service documentation and presents as a mostly original example. The estimate of $1.2 – 1.4 million is market correct and only inspection will prove whether the low or higher amount is more appropriate.
